A few months ago, Jeff and I were headed to Longmont for a bike ride when we snuck in a quick detour to Fort Collins. Despite being in town just a couple of hours, we were able to make three brewery stops, albeit very quick ones. We promised that someday we’d be back to spend more time with these great breweries, and maybe we’d even bring our friends. Well, consider it done! We decided to celebrate my birthday a few days early and make a fun weekend of the trip so we gathered several of our drinking buddies and hit the road! We visited the same three breweries and several new Fort Collins bars. It was a great weekend! Here is what I remember of it….
First stop: Fort Collins Brewery. We needed a meal as a base before drinking, so we met for lunch at the FBC Gravity 1020 Restaurant. We mostly split a few plates of appetizers, and everything we ate was delicious. The cheese curds and bacon-wrapped pretzels are reason enough to drive to Fort Collins. I mean – yum! During lunch we sampled several of the FCB beers. Favorites included the 1900 Amber and the Haus Brew. I really loved the Coconut Porter, and of course, Jeff loved the Rocky Mountain IPA. What can I say, they were all good…
After lunch we went next door to the tasting room and snagged a few more beers. We were able to sample the Barley Wine, snag a bomber of the Incredible Hop, and grab a few more pints of our favorites. I chose the Mint Chocolate Porter. Girl Scouts, you can keep your thin mints this year, because this beer was delicious! With our drinks in tow, a few of our group was given a quick look behind the scenes at the brewery, while the rest of us soaked up some sun on the patio. (Seriously – we were enjoying the patio in February. What is with this weather!?)
In summary, Fort Collins Brewery was awesome. The food at Gravity 1020 was amazing, and the beers were all great. If this were closer to home, it would be a regular stop. We had even more fun this time since we shared it with our friends.
Next stop of the day: New Belgium Brewing. Stay tuned for our next post to read about our continued adventures in Fort Collins!
