This past Tuesday, June 20th was the Summer Solstice, aka the longest day of the year. We love that summer is finally in full-gear, but it’s also a bit sad that we’ve already passed the halfway mark. From here on out days will slowly get shorter until, before you know it, summer turns into autumn. Before you think we’re being all Debbie-Downer about summer ending, we’re not. We know there are plenty of warm, sunny days ahead of us and we plan to make the most of them. Plus, there is plenty to love about autumn. Autumn brings us relief from the summer heat, pumpkin-spiced everything, and best of all, GABF – the Great American Beer Festival.
Counting Down to GABF
This year the Great American Beer Festival celebrates their 36th year. The fest has become one of the premier beer festivals in the world, and beer lovers come from near and far to participate and attend. Yes, the festival is still many months away. But if you want to attend GABF 2017, it’s a good idea to plan ahead. Below are some of the important dates you need to mark on your calendar now if you want to get tickets to this year’s festival.
There are 104 days until GABF 2017
GABF will return to the Colorado Convention Center in Denver October 5 – October 7, 2017. The three-day craft beer festival will once again offer 4 tasting sessions: evening sessions on Thursday and Friday, plus two sessions on Saturday. This includes the Saturday afternoon members-only session, for members of the Brewers Association (BA) and American Homebrewers Association (AHA).
Last year the breweries at GABF poured over 3800 beers. What will GABF have in store for us in 2017? Only time will tell, but we think it’s safe to say that it will be awesome.
If you are coming from out-of-town to Denver for GABF, it’s never too early to start making travel plans. Hotels near the Colorado Convention Center fill up fast, so book soon if you want a room within stumbling distance of the fest. While making your plans, make sure you pad a few extra days in Denver. During GABF week there are dozens of great beer events all over town. We promise, you won’t get bored… or thirsty.
There are 39 days until GABF 2017 tickets go on sale
If there is one safe prediction to make about GABF, it’s that tickets will sell out fast. In 2016, the festival sold out in 67 minutes. So these dates, more than perhaps any of the others, are important if you want to get into the fest.
For BA and AHA members, ticket pre-sales start at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, August 1. General public tickets go on sale the next day, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 2. Wait any longer than that, and you’ll probably need to check the secondary market if you want to find tickets. There are 30 days to join the AHA or BA to get a GABF member pre-sale code
If you’ve been paying attention, you may have noticed that membership in the BA or AHA has it’s privileges when it comes to GABF. Membership allows you to take part in the GABF ticket pre-sale, giving you an extra chance to secure tickets for the fest. It also means you can buy tickets for the Saturday afternoon members-only session.
Finally, only BA and AHA members can buy tickets for Paired, an incredible food and beer event that happens within GABF. Paired takes place just off the festival floor during the Thursday and Friday night sessions. Featuring food from celebrated chefs and beer from some of the best independent brewers in the country, Paired is incredible. We highly recommend you buy Paired tickets along with your session tickets during the members-only pre-sale. Just be warned, Paired sells out especially fast.
How do you become a BA or AHA member? If you work in the beer industry, you can check out Brewers Association website for you membership options. For the rest of us, membership is available through the American Homebrewers Association. Whichever you choose to join, your memberships needs to be active by July 23 at 11:59 p.m. PDT if you want to take advantage of the GABF member pre-sale.
