There is something about summertime in Colorado that always makes us want to explore. We love to pack our car up for the weekend and hit the road, discovering new places and taking in all the beauty and adventure Colorado offers along the route. Of course, it’s even better when there’s great craft beer at the end of the trip, which is why we’re big fans of the Colorado Brewers Rendezvous. This fantastic beer fest in Salida is the perfect excuse for a weekend road trip!
The 22nd Annual Brewers Rendezvous
The Brewers Rendezvous is the Colorado Brewer’s Guild’s most celebrated craft beer gathering of the year. The festival takes place in picturesque Salida, Colorado, a town that is definitely worth a road trip to visit. The festival takes place at Riverside Park on Saturday, July 14 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees will enjoy unlimited samples from more than 75 Colorado craft breweries while surrounded by soaring mountain views and the Arkansas River.
We attended the Colorado Brewers Rendezvous for the first time last year, and our only regret was waiting so long to attend this annual festival. We made the trip a weekend getaway and had a great time. It was our first visit to Salida, and we absolutely loved the town. Plus the festival itself was great, both for being so big (lots of breweries!) and yet keeping that laid-back, small-town festival vibe. If you like Colorado craft beer we highly recommend this festival.
More Than a Beer Festival
The Colorado Brewers Rendezvous was created out of a need and a location. The Colorado Brewers Guild (CBG) needed a place to gather and conduct an annual membership meeting. In 1995, Salida created the Salida Beer Festival, a festival in which several guild members were planning to attend. This festival became an impromptu membership meeting that became such a cherished event that the Salida Chamber and CBG members decided to continue this tradition year-after-year. Now in its 22nd year, Salida is still home to this gathering, which since 1996 has been a dual fundraiser for both the Salida Chamber and the CBG. It’s the perfect festival to meet all the faces behind your favorite beers.
Breweries from all across Colorado will be participating, so you’re sure to find many of your favorites. Participating breweries include:

Planning Your Salida Trip
Salida is one of those Colorado towns that we visited once, and immediately knew we had to come back often. The city offers incredible views and countless opportunities for adventure. Plus everyone we met was incredibly friendly. Apparently, we aren’t alone in our love for this amazing town. Just check out this recent article:
Salida, a mountain town in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, has been named the ‘Best Unsung Mountain Town’ by Outside Magazine in 2017, one of the “20 Game-Changing Places to Live” by Sunset Magazine, one of “America’s Coolest Town’s for Outdoor Adventure” by the Matador Network and one of Vogue’s “9 U.S.
If you haven’t visited Salida in a while, the Colorado Brewers Rendezvous is a great excuse to plan a trip. And while we’ve only been there once, here’s a few tips from our visit to help you plan your trip:
If you really want an adventure, there is plenty of space to camp near Salida in the San Isabel National Forest. Learn more at salida.com/salida-recreation/recreation-camping. If you’re into a less rustic adventure, there are several hotels in Salida. We stayed at the Gateway Inn and Suites last year. The hotel was clean, quiet, comfortable, and offered a free breakfast. Best of all, it was just a quick 1-mile walk from Riverside Park. For more lodging ideas visit salida.com/salida-lodging/.
Local Breweries & Distilleries
While you’re in Salida, stop by their two craft breweries: Soulcraft Brewing and Moonlight Pizza and Brewpub. Moonlight is just a short walk from Riverside Park, so you can pay them a visit for dinner after the festival. They offer a rotating line-up of small-batch beers and some incredible pizza. Soulcraft Brewing is off Highway 50, and definitely worth a visit for their great beer lineup. Chill out in their tasting room to escape the midday heat.
If you prefer something stronger, Salida is also home to Wood’s High Mountain Distillery, maker of whiskey, gin, and other liqueurs. Book a tour online to check them out, or stop by their tasting room to buy some small-batch craft spirits to bring home.
